Disaster Relief
This project was assigned as a product to provide relief to those who have been effected by disasters of some kind. I decided to focus on hurricanes as they are particularly devastating to a large area.
My idea for development was to create a product that provided cell service to those in areas without it so they could contact help if needed. As I originally wanted to create a rescue device, I figured it would be more worthwhile to develop this kind of product as everyone has a phone but not everyone will go out of their way to purchase an expensive rescue device.
I ultimately settled on designing a wind-resistant cellular relay drone which could be deployed to disaster-stricken areas to provide temporary coverage. A remote controlled boat could be driven by rescue crews or a network company in flooded areas to a region experiencing an outage. From there a wind-resistant quadcopter drone could be deployed to act as a service relay between victims cell phones and the network itself.
Lots of planning and research went into this product. I utilized programs like Vizcom and Procreate in my process as I had never used them before, so my project did have a learning curve but I am overall pleased with the results of my research.
