About Me

My name is Connor Kirchoff. I am a second year industrial design student attending Southern Illinois University.

Originally a mechanical engineering student, I felt as though the field was too focused on technicalities and wanted something that combined my attributes well. After a quick Google search, I discovered industrial design and went down a rabbit hole from there. It was after I toured the industrial design program at SIU that I knew right away what I wanted to go into.

Although this is only my third semester in the industrial design program, my knowledge and skillset have advanced tremendously. Since I started at SIU I’ve learned about the design process, utilizing new tools to help convey ideas, and have branched out in my skillset through a variety of mediums. I’ve worked digitally, with pen, with marker, with foam, with wood, things I hadn’t even touched two years ago. It’s exciting that I’ve learned so much in such a short time, because it has me excited to what I can accomplish in the future. In the meantime, I will keep trying to learn new things and stay passionate about my work.

Personal

Having a twin brother makes it really easy to come up with something when someone asks “What’s a fun fact about you?”. My twin brother Cole is my mirror image, a built in best friend. He loves everything I do: cars, history, technology (old and new). My parents always joke that they can never get a word in when we get started talking. Having a twin is great because not only does it give a lot of insight to them, but also about you. I wish everyone had a twin, it really does change your perspective.

Growing up in a household with a father as a history teacher, it’s only natural that I would grow up loving learning. I’ve always been fascinated with the world around me, and strive for new experiences. This drive for learning and knowledgeable background has helped give me unique insight when working on projects within design. I’m excited for what the future holds, and I look forward to it with an open mind.
